We founded the Nevada Firearms Coalition PAC following the 2013 Nevada Legislature when we saw firsthand how Nevada’s gun-grabbing liberals were treating your rights. That year NVFAC made a commitment to have a full-time, professional lobbyist present in Carson City, which was critical to preventing Bloomberg’s first attempt to buy the votes he needed pass universal background checks in Nevada.

For more than six years we’ve stopped Michael Bloomberg’s out-of-state money and high-paid lobbyists with a fraction of their resources.

Our accomplishments include:

• 2013: Stopped Bloomberg’s first universal background check attempt with a veto by Governor Sandoval
• 2016: Stopped Bloomberg’s second universal background check attempt (Question 1) with Attorney General Adam Laxalt who agreed it was unenforceable
• 2015: Passed the omnibus gun rights bill through the Legislature, banning gun registration in Clark County (resulting in the destruction of all gun registration records) and strengthened your right to self-defense in your home or vehicle.
• 2017: Passed legislation allowing active duty or honorably discharged members of the military from 18 to 21 years of age to obtain a CCW permit
• 2019: Stopped the Legislature from bringing back gun registration in Assembly Bill 291

Since 2013 NVFAC has kept a full-time, professional gun-rights lobbyist on the ground in Carson City which has enabled us to hold and even gain ground for Nevada’s gun rights, but this most recent legislative session, we saw the consequences of Bloomberg’s money and the representatives who were elected in 2018. Governor Sisolak signed AB291 into law on June 14th making unenforceable “universal background checks” and the egregious government overreach of red-flag gun confiscation the law of the Sliver State.

However, because of your involvement and constant pressure, other potential damage to your rights was limited, including the elimination of the attempt to bring back handgun registration. We are grateful that state pre-emption was not revoked, as that would have undone the work we accomplished in 1989, 2011 and in 2015.  But besides that, it was not a great session for gun owners.

As we prepare for the 2021 session, we know that revoking pre-emption is still a priority for some Clark County commissioners, legislators and out-of-state big-money groups. That is why we must stand our ground in 2020 to educate voters on what rights they could lose if we don’t change the makeup of the state legislature.

NVFAC-PAC LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES For 2019 Legislature

Dedicated to defending our 2nd Amendment Rights to the Ownership & Safe Use of Firearms for Self-Defense, Competition, Recreation & Hunting. 

NVFAC-PAC will support any firearms legislation where analysis shows an enhancement of personal liberty and significant public benefits.
NVFAC-PAC will oppose any firearms legislation where analysis shows that the public safety benefits are an intrusion into personal liberty.

• Support gun rights legislative gains from 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017 sessions.
• Amend NRS 202.254 to eliminate mandatory background checks between private parties. Replace with a free background voluntary background checks between private parties via a phone call system with DPS.
• Sales tax exemption for non-retail sales by gun dealers.
• Early CCW renewal and correction of 60-day ccw requirement for new residents to conform to 120 current wait; new resident permits recognized by NV will be valid until NV CFP issued or denied. Sheriff has 120 days to approve.
• Change current felonious carrying handgun without permit to misdemeanor 1^st offense
• Mandatory prosecution and sentencing for prohibited firearms possessors
• Sales tax exemption for gun safes
• Revise NRS to provide comprehensive firearms definition section, including eliminating references to federal codes in NV legal definitions. NV conflicts with Federal code on definitions, and NRS should define firearms.
• Allow the Attorney General to have authority to sue for violations of the Second Amendment
